CARES Act Sec. 2201 introduces the 2020 recovery rebate for individuals. These are generally referred to as the economic impact payment (EIP). The amount is a refundable 2020 tax credit equal to the sum of:
- $1,200 ($2,400 in the case of eligible individuals filing a joint return), plus
- $500 x number of the taxpayer’s qualifying children [as per IRC Sec. 24(c)].
