How to build a start-up company during the COVID-19 pandemic

The office and business was closed on March 23, 2020 to protect my father, my staff and all my clients. The COVID-19 Pandemic exposed our readiness for an extended stay-at-home and remote work. This is especially true when our clientele are small minority businesses in the Washington DC Metropolitan area.

Task 1 – Migrate servers

March 24, 2020 to April 1, 2020

I am happy that my NAS servers, AWS cloud backup server and Digital Ocean development servers are all working as expected. This was a very expensive week (another post about cloud provider later) getting all the data migrated to my home servers so that I can help my clients gather all the documents to apply for the EIDL loan and Payroll Protection Program loan. This was part of the $2.2 Trillion CARES Act stimulus package (the Senate Bill S.3548 bill is 247 pages and the House Bill H.R.748 is 335 pages) and I spent 2 days (March 29 and March 30) reading the two bills to understand the top level administrative framework.

Task 2 – Reset development & document servers

March 26, 2020 to April 1, 2020

Steven took care of the development servers migration and I spent the week searching and packaging the documents that are required for the loans.
