State of the Digital Process Automation Market

Technology trends and new business opportunities continue to influence how customers deploy automated process solutions. RPA will continue to roil the market while buyers sort out the differences between it and digital process automation. Data will move to the forefront when automating business processes, and new ideas for managing a workforce that combines humans and software robots will be developed. The market will also see a greater use of entity modeling and a better understanding of when/if to use citizen developers.

Traditional emphasis on creating process flows and maps often results in lower priority for data. Experienced process leaders are beginning to understand data’s criticality in process automation projects. They will spend more time on data modeling, data quality, dataintegration, master data management (MDM), and even creating data lakes. The data that processes consume resides in inconsistent formats.

With the advent of AI/ML, simply curating process data for self-managing process automation will become increasingly important. Data management, data integration, data quality, and data modeling will be increasingly important between now and 2025. Most digital process automation vendors that shine at entity modeling don’t make it a key part of the sales pitch.
