The inbound methodology can be applied in three ways:

  • Attract: drawing in the right people with valuable content and conversations that establish you as a trusted advisor with whom they want to engage.
  • Engage: presenting insights and solutions that align with their pain points and goals so they are more likely to buy from you.
  • Delight: providing help and support to empower your customers to find success with their purchase.

Inbound marketing is a methodology developed by HubSpot in 2005. The concept is very similar to permission marketing, a term that first came out on Seth Godin’s book Permission Marketing. Inbound marketing has become a multi-million dollar industry, sprouting discussion groups and online communities, and changing the way marketers do content marketing and SEO over the past decade. 75% of companies with an inbound marketing strategy believe it’s working for them.
